New E-learning Course: Food Security Policies - Formulation and Implementation

A new e-learning course on
Food Security Policies is now available at:

This course describes Food Security Policies and explains when and why they are required. The course also describes the process of Food Security Policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Resources for trainers, which include powerpoint slides, learners’ and trainers’ notes, and classroom exercises are also available on the CD-Rom or at:
http://www.foodsec.org/tr_res_09.htm
The training materials can easily be adapted by institutions to suit their own training needs.
The course is available at no cost to all interested learners. A French version of the course is forthcoming.
Content
Each lesson is delivered in an interactive self-paced learning environment which uses illustrated step-by-step instructions and exercises. Specific lessons include:
1. Establishment of a Food Security Policy Framework
This lesson provides guidance for the preparation of food security policies, including the preparation of a Food Security Policy document and how to incorporate food security policy issues into national development policies and strategies.
2. Institutional Framework for Food Security Policies
This lesson identifies the role and functions of institutions and other stakeholders involved in the process of food security policy formulation and implementation.
3. Policy Monitoring and Evaluation
This lesson looks at the role of monitoring and evaluation in the cycle of policy formulation and implementation; and the approaches used to monitor and evaluate the implementation and impacts of food security policies.
4. Policy Formulation and Implementation
This lesson describes the steps and activities of the policy formulation and implementation process, and identifies the major stakeholders involved.
Target Audience
1) Planners, policy formulators and programme managers who are involved in monitoring progress in poverty reduction, and meeting food security goals and targets.
2) Mid-level managers, technical staff, field personnel who are involved in the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of food security information.
About the EC-FAO Programme
